🚨 Aortic Dissection: A Medical Emergency You Need to Recognize
An aortic dissection happens when a tear develops in the inner layer of the aorta—the body’s largest artery. Blood can then force its way between the layers of the aortic wall, potentially reducing blood flow to vital organs or causing the aorta to rupture.
Symptoms may include:
⚡ Sudden, severe chest or upper-back pain
⚡ Pain described as tearing, ripping, or stabbing
⚡ Fainting, dizziness, or extreme weakness
⚡ Shortness of breath
⚡ Stroke-like symptoms
Not every person will experience the same symptoms, but sudden, unexplained, severe chest or back pain should never be ignored. Call 911 immediately.
Risk may be higher in people with uncontrolled high blood pressure, an aortic aneurysm, certain inherited connective-tissue disorders, a bicuspid aortic valve, or a family history of aortic disease.
