🩺 HIGH CHOLESTEROL: What Do the Numbers Really Mean?
Cholesterol isn’t just one number—it's a group of markers that tell us about your risk for heart disease. Here's what to look for:
🔹 Total Cholesterol
✅ Desirable: < 200 mg/dL
⚠️ Borderline High: 200–239 mg/dL
❗High: ≥ 240 mg/dL
🔹 LDL ("Bad" Cholesterol)
✅ Optimal: < 100 mg/dL
⚠️ Near Optimal: 100–129 mg/dL
❗High: 160+ mg/dL = increased risk for plaque buildup
🔹 HDL ("Good" Cholesterol)
✅ Protective: ≥ 60 mg/dL
❗Low: < 40 mg/dL (men), < 50 mg/dL (women) = higher heart risk
🔹 Triglycerides
✅ Normal: < 150 mg/dL
❗High: ≥ 200 mg/dL = linked to atherosclerosis and insulin resistance
💡 Even if your numbers are just borderline, that’s your body asking for a change. Small, consistent habits in nutrition, exercise, and stress management can make a big impact over time.
